The United States (US) has the largest and most developed stock market in the world. Stocks traded on US stock exchanges represent different sectors and companies in the economy. Various indices are used to measure the performance of US stock markets. These indices inform investors about market trends, industry analysis and investment opportunities.




The most important indices of the US stock markets are:




- Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJI): It is the oldest and most well-known index in the USA. It was founded in 1896 and consists of stocks of 30 leading companies of the US economy. It covers sectors such as industrial production, consumption, finance and technology.


- S&P 500 Index (SPX): It is the most comprehensive index of the USA. It was founded in 1957 and consists of the stocks of 500 large companies traded on the US stock exchanges. The components of the index are determined by market capitalization, and the index represents approximately 75% of the US economy.


- Nasdaq 100 Index (NDX): It is the most innovative and technology-oriented index of the USA. It was established in 1985 and consists of stocks of 100 major companies traded on the Nasdaq stock exchange. The components of the index are determined according to the market value and the index covers sectors such as technology, biotechnology, internet and telecommunications.


- Russell 2000 Index (RUT): It is the smallest and most dynamic index of the USA. It was founded in 1984 and consists of the stocks of 2000 small companies traded on the US stock exchanges. The components of the index are determined by market value, and the index covers sectors with small-scale entrepreneurship, innovation and growth potential.




In addition to these indices, there are many other indices traded on the US stock markets. These include indices created according to sectoral, thematic, strategic or geographical features. For example, the S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) lists companies in the biotechnology sector; Dow Jones Commodity Index (DJCI), changes in commodity prices; The Dow Jones Germany Titans 30 Index (DE30) tracks major companies in Germany.
